Obtain bone grafting with Devonshire, Bermuda area dentist
Patients who are missing teeth and do not seek replacement of their teeth as soon as possible may experience problems such as bone atrophy or bone resorption. This is the loss of bone in the jaw. While this may not seem problematic, it can impact many different aspects of the patient’s smile. Severe bone resorption can cause patients to develop a “sunken” look to the jaw and mouth. It can also make patients poor candidates for restorative options such as dental implants. Bermuda patients who are interested in bone restoration may be considered for bone grafting procedures.
What is bone grafting?
Bone grafting is the replacement of missing bone with donor material from either the patient themselves or another donor. It restores and repairs areas where bone is missing to rebuild the area and provide a stronger jaw. It may also be done in preparation for placing dental implants, which require sufficient bone. This accommodation may make patients better candidates for implants when they might not otherwise be able to use them in their smiles.
Does bone grafting hurt?
Bone grafting is performed like many other dental procedures at Positive Image Dental with local anesthetics. In cases where patients may have dental anxiety, we also provide sedation as needed for an extra layer of comfort for patients who might be nervous about having dental procedures performed.
Do I need bone grafting?
Your dentist at Positive Image Dental will discuss with you if you are a good candidate for bone grafting. Determining the need for this is often done with the use of dental x-rays which allow the dental team to visualize the patient’s current situation of the jaw and decide if grafting is necessary.
